If you need me, phone me at 988-4433. I will even make house calls to make sure your input is heard. My name is Wayne J. Gardin. I am married to Martha M. Gardin. I have two step-children and four grand-children. It has been my honor to serve as a Loudon County Commissioner representing the 6th district for the past four year. As a retired individual, I will continue to devote my full-time efforts to my responsibilities as your commissioner.
First and foremost, I believe it is the commission's responsibility to balance our budget and position our county for excellent audit results as a matter of standard practice. I do not support, endorse or anticipate supporting a state income tax.
Likewise, I will NOT vote to increase property taxes in Loudon County or to implement a wheel tax.
We must find other ways to meet the needs of our county and state without additional burden to the tax-payer.
I have been involved in county government for the past 10 years and am currently finishing my first term as Loudon County Commissioner of the 6th District. I am a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. I retired from General Electric where I graduated from GE's 3-year Manufacturing Studies Program. So,I bring to the commission over 30 years experience in management, budgeting, purchasing
and contract negotiations. I am also certified as a school teacher in the state of Tennessee, so I have the insight that comes with having taught in 15 different schools.
My support of local civic organizations and churches is extensive. Being of the Christian faith, I believe such involvement is the very foundation of our country. During my six years on the Loudon County Regional Planning Commission, I donated most of my salary to Highland Park Elementary School. I have donated my salary while a commissioner of the 6th district to assist a college student with tuition.
Some additional civic experience includes:
One of my proudest accomplishments as your 6th district commissioner was securing the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation's commitment to installing a traffic light at the dangerous intersection of Shaw Ferry Road and Highway 11. The project is expected to be completed by October 31, 2010.
In addition, here is a sampling of what I have accomplished and enabled during my 1st term:
- As a member of the Merit Board for the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, re-wrote the Private Act (policies & procedures for hiring & discharging employees).
- Paved Oakwood Estates, Martel East, Morton Road, Wilson Road, Black Berry Ridge Road and Lakeview Road.
- Paved & widened Parris Road.
- Redesigned & improved visibility of the underpass at Martel Road.
- Attended all classes for County Technical Assistance Service at my own expense.
- Have perfect attendance for all Loudon County Commission meetings and workshops.
- Demonstrated a fiscally conservative voting record. Maintained a balanced budget in 2009 and all departments operated with the same budgets as the prior year.
- Loudon County Central Accounting passed its 2009 audit without a single write-up.
- Supported the passage of the $1 per square foot Adequate Facilities Tax designated towards the School Building Program.
